The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to respect the interim order issued by the Supreme Court on the redesign of the naira.
In a press briefing on Sunday, APC Chairman Abdullahi Adamu announced that the party’s National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee, APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, and APC governors met in Abuja and discussed the issue.
They called on Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to respect the existing Supreme Court injunction.
Adamu also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and resolve the ongoing crisis caused by the redesign policy, saying “The meeting is asking His Excellency, Mr President, to intervene to resolve the issues.”
In addition, Adamu stated that the CBN’s policy has caused significant difficulties for the people and the national economy.
“We note very seriously that the program and its implementation is causing tremendous difficulties to the people of Nigeria and to the national economy,” Adamu said.
The governors who attended the meeting included Simon Lalong of Plateau, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Abubakar Bello of Niger, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, and Yahaya Bello of Kogi. Others were Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Mala Buni of Yobe, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa.
Tinubu also joined the meeting while it was in progress. The resolution made at the meeting is without prejudice to the case currently before the Supreme Court regarding the redesign policy.
