Silverbird Group founder Ben Murray-Bruce recently revealed his unfortunate experience of being defrauded of $3.5 million by his South African business partner in a failed cinema complex deal in Kenya. The incident was shared during his address at the Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference in Lagos.
Despite not disclosing his partner’s name, Bruce explained how his partner registered the business in his own name after he transferred the money for the purchase, resulting in a significant financial loss for Bruce.
In addition to discussing this incident, Bruce spoke of his involvement in a legal dispute with a prominent Hollywood actor and his passion for movie production. He expressed his commitment to developing a script for a film that addresses critical societal issues.
Bruce emphasized the importance of nurturing creativity, citing an experience he had in Ajegunle, Lagos, where he witnessed children engaged in a fight. He challenged the perception that these children were criminals, noting that many successful leaders in the U.S. entertainment industry come from similar backgrounds.
In honor of the late Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, Bruce reminisced about her visit to his home on a bicycle. He recounted how she questioned his shift from entertainment to politics, highlighting their longstanding relationship and her dedication to the industry.
Looking ahead, Bruce is optimistic about the future of his film project and is confident in his ability to address important societal issues through the entertainment industry.
