Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has alleged that security agencies have identified a senator, Ireti Kingibe, as the sponsor of the recent protests in Abuja against President Tinubu. The protests, which began on Thursday, were initiated by youth groups to address the escalating cost of living.
Wike revealed that the senator had provided food for the protesters and enlisted security agencies to assist in distributing supplies, constituting sponsorship. He warned that security agencies would question the senator about this involvement at the appropriate time.
The minister also expressed concerns about potential plans by some protesters to engage in vandalism and violence on Friday, citing attempts to breach Eagle Square and intelligence suggesting plans to cause significant damage and endanger lives.
Wike emphasized the importance of adhering to legal protest locations, such as the MKO Abiola Stadium, as directed by the court, to avoid further loss of lives or property damage, especially with the international community present. The protests are expected to continue on Friday.
