23 victims of human trafficking sold to Burkina Faso were on Tuesday night received by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State.
The victims included 13 men from Kankara Local Government Area of the State, while the remaining 10 men were said to be originally from Zamfara State.

Seven other victims had earlier been assisted to return to the country.
The Nigerian Consulate in Burkina Faso had facilitated their release from where they were being treated as slaves.
The victims were said to have been tricked out of Katsina State by one Alhaji Usman from Kankara LG, who allegedly sold them to a female trafficker in the Benin Republic.
The woman later resold them to another trafficker in Burkina Faso.
Usman is currently at large.
One of the victims who identified himself as Ali Ali revealed on Tuesday night that they were promised jobs in  Burkina Faso.
Ali further revealed that he and other victims were transported from Kankara LG to Benin Republic where they were handed over to a woman who later took and handed them over to a man in Burkina Faso.

He added that they were treated with cruelty
Ali said some of them who fell ill were denied medical attention, which made him suspect that they might have been sold as slaves in Burkina Faso.
Governor Masari speaking when he received the victims, said two other victims who were supposed to be among the returnees refused to do so because of their suspicion that people believed they knew the man who sold them into slavery.

He promised that the government was ready to bring home any other persons facing similar situations.
The Governor promised that government would rehabilitate the victims after they might have undergone necessary security profiling.
