Mark, Suswam, Agbo Vying for PDP National Chairmanship Seat

Amidst internal party tensions and power struggles, the search for a suitable candidate for the PDP National Chairmanship position has intensified among key stakeholders. A meeting of the NEC on October 24 revealed a focus on potential candidates from the North-central zone.

Former Senate President Senator Mark, former Benue State Governor Senator Suswam, PDP Governors’ Forum Director General Agbo, and Mr. Conrad Utaan are among the notable candidates from Benue State. Mark’s candidacy has gained support from some retired generals, although it remains uncertain if he will stand for election at the upcoming NEC meeting.

Suswam has expressed his willingness to run for the position, emphasizing the need for unity and transparency within the party. Similarly, Utaan, endorsed by local government chairmen in Benue State, and Agbo, a former deputy national secretary of the PDP, are also strong contenders with significant support.

Speaking to THISDAY over the weekend, Suswam said, “Yes, I am in the race to become the next national chairman because I believe that I can unite the party through honest leadership.

“I will ensure that impunity and all that the PDP is negatively known for will become a thing of the past.” He added that his ambition is not a “do-or-die affair.”

Another strong contender is Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, a former deputy national secretary of the PDP and one-time chairman of the party in Benue State.

Agbo enjoys backing from various state party leaders, having previously served as chairman of the state chairmen. As the current Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Agbo is reportedly supported by several governors.

With the October 24 election drawing near, the race for the PDP National Chairmanship remains highly contested, with each candidate vying for the opportunity to lead the party forward.
