The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Samaila Jagaba, 46, of Kuduru village, in the Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, for allegedly offering the police a bribe of N200,000 to secure the release of a suspected bandit.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed this to our correspondent in Minna on Thursday, said Jagaba was arrested by operatives attached to Shiroro division following a tip-off.
Abiodun said the suspect offered money to the police as gratification to secure the release of a suspected bandit, Bala Bako, 35, who was recently apprehended with a locally-made pistol and one live cartridge.
He said the suspected bandit, during interrogation, confessed to have bought the pistol from an unidentified person at Wukoko village, in Chukun LGA of Kaduna State.
The police spokesman appealed to residents to assist the police with intelligence information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of criminals in the state
