Magu: N37bn Missing …Faces Dismissal From Police, Has Pending Disciplinary Case, Security Details Withdrawn

Embattled suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is said to be unable to account for about N37 billion from the funds realised from sales of recovered landed properties and vehicles.
This is even as investigators discovered that as early as 4am on Tuesday, EFCC staff members suspected to by “Magu Boys” invaded the headquarters of the anti-graft agency and made away with files and computers containing important information.
Specifically, 167 recovered trucks missing from its Port Harcourt office, could not be accounted for. 27 of those trucks recovered, were sold this year.
According to Pointblanknews.com, Magu admitted that he flagrantly defied the Act setting up the EFCC, which stipulates he reports to the supervisory ministry which is the Ministry of Justice and Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
He consistently ignored requests of assistance to investigate and recover about N67 billion by sister agencies including the office of the Inspector General of Police and the Presidency.
The source hinted that Magu could not account for missing N37 billion as indicated in the submitted report of the presidential asset recovery panel headed by the chairman of the FIRS.
Magu may face disciplinary panel, PSC
It was learnt that Magu may be brought before the Force Disciplinary Committee made up of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police for trial and possible dismissal.
A top security agent said that since he had attained the rank of a Commissioner of Police, he could not be charged until he is properly dismissed from the police.
Already, all security details attached to him have been withdrawn as police authorities await the outcome of the investigation of the presidential panel.
“After the panel has finished sitting and once Magu is found wanting on any of the 24 allegations, he would be made to face the Force Disciplinary Committee which comprises the DIGs. The committee would make a recommendation to the IG who would in turn forward the report to the Police Service Commission (PSC). The PSC would then do the needful.
“This has to take place because it is a process. Even as he is technically not EFCC chairman, being in detention and another has taken his place, he would not be dismissed from the Force without fair hearing.
“However, Magu already has an existing disciplinary case in his police file. So, as a second-time offender, dismissal would be very easy,” the source said.
