Like Jigawa, Bauchi NBA to boycott virtual conference over El-Rufai

The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian bar Association, NBA, has followed suit to the Jigawa State counterpart’s decision to boycott the annual virtual conference of the association, following the withdrawal of invitation to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
Recall that on Thursday, the NBA had withdrawn Mr El-Rufai’s invitation to the conference slated for August 26 to 29, following a protest by some lawyers under the aegis of Open Bar Initiative.
Reaction, the Jigawa chapter chairman, Garba Abubakar, in a statement on Friday, called on the national leadership of the association to reverse the decision or face boycott by the chapter.

Similarly, the Bauchi chapter, in a statement signed by its chairman and secretary, Abubakar Abdulhamid-Bununu and Shamsudeen Magani respectively, described the NBA’s decision as unpopular, “which affects the hard-earned image and integrity of the Nigerian Bar Association as an impartial unpire”.

“Furthermore, failure to rescind its decision, the leadership of our noble branch has resolved unanimously an unequivocally to boycott the forthcoming NBA conference scheduled for this 2020,” the statement noted.
