The meeting comes on the heels of the Nigeria Labour Congress’ (NLC) declaration of an indefinite strike, starting June 3, 2024, over the federal government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage above N60,000.
The strike follows failed negotiations between the government and organised labour, with the government maintaining its final offer of N60,000 despite labour’s concession to revise its demand from N497,000 to N494,000.
