The end to a tyrannical rule that seems so far is gradually drawing to a close, to God be the glory. I doubt if there’s much great news to share about kogi since the coming on board of governor Yahaya Bello. Our people have passed and still passing through such a tumultuous phase in his time but you wouldn’t get to hear the real gist because the business of politics has remained the only thriving thing in his tenure. Civil service is dead and businesses are not so encouraging but to remain relevant, you have to “belong”.
kogi is a state that I doubt there’s one household that doesn’t have a practising politician even if it’s just at the local level. Our youths rush to the beck and call of politicians to be able to “chop” and be respected in the society. Honorable is a normal thing in my place infact almost every turn you make, you must hear honorable when greetings is being exchanged among our people.
These has made true governance elope our people. Individual interest is being protected at all cost as the need to satisfy the master supersedes all reasoning. This has made our people lose hope and relinquish the power they have as a people to the politicians who now decides how deep their suffering will be, unfortunately.
Deep down most people’s heart, they seek an end to GYB’s rule as fast as possible but held ransom by their friend,uncle, relative etc who’s serving in one capacity or the other so the suffering in silence continues. I worked in kogi for several years and even though it wasn’t perfect, I know kogi state civil service was one of the best especially in north central but now, the story is that of sorrow especially local government staff, primary school teachers and pensioners.
It is thus worrisome that even at this age and time, my people still haven’t gotten rid of the strong hold these selfish politicians have over them. You could sense the tone of disappointment, surprise, shock and so on felt by the people as a result of GYB’s decision to anoint his Auditor general Ododo yesterday. I then wondered when our people will wake up and release the strangle hold these guys have on them if they still limited their options to those under the tutelage of their tormentor? Kogi State is the least developed in our sub region, nothing exceptional to show for GYB’s reign except the empowerment of the few who are benefiting directly or indirectly from his loot. All the frontliners in the quest to become governor under APC are people who are part of those that made life hell for our people but I keep wondering how they never realise that.
Now, their Oga has settled for one Usman Ododo who has been the one wielding the sword of percentage salary to our people as such if someone like him is allowed to continue in office after GYB, then the suffering knows no end.
In this, the best option would have been the opposition but unfortunately we have a very weak one existing in the state. ADC that’s being mentioned by my Okun people has no widespread structure to win at this stage. so in reality, APC has all the ball in its court except God intervenes.
