As the Kogi State Supreme Court prepares to deliver its long-awaited ruling tomorrow in the gubernatorial dispute between incumbent Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo and Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), both camps are brimming with mixed emotions.
Political observers are left puzzled by the contrasting sentiments displayed by the two factions. In the streets of Lokoja, while high-ranking officials within the Kogi State government appear anxious, supporters of Governor Ododo are celebrating, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court will rule in their favor. Many believe that since President Tinubu took office, no governor has been unseated, suggesting that any political agreements that have benefited others will also extend to Ododo, considering the fact that Judiciary in Nigeria is about the higher bidders with Ododo controlling state resources he should be able to sway the judgement to his side .
Conversely, some supporters are expressing concerns about the implications of President Tinubu’s recent trip to France amidst the ongoing legal proceedings. Additionally, the recent resignation of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Ariwoola has raised eyebrows, leading to speculation that the court’s leadership change could influence the outcome of the ruling. Other group believed the alleged involvement of Yahaya Bello in #Endbadgovernance protest is seeing as a direct confrontation on the president considering the fact that Isman Ododo aided the escaped of Yahaya Bello from Economic and a financial Crimes Commission EFCC, the president may not intervene and that may be dangerous considering the facts the result that lead to Ododo victory was carelessly rigged .
In stark contrast, Ajaka’s camp is exuding optimism, bolstered by the belief that their candidate, who has deep ties within the ruling party considered as part of the ruling party will emerge victorious. Supporters argue that the evidence presented in court overwhelmingly supports Ajaka’s case, positioning him as a formidable contender against Ododo.
With the ruling set to be announced tomorrow, both camps are bracing for a pivotal moment that could reshape the political landscape in Kogi State.
