The people of Kogi Central Senatorial District under the umbrella of the Concerned Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District, have issued a strong demand for the immediate reversal of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Nigerian Senate.
They made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by their Coordinator/Convener, Abdulrahaman Badamasiuy, calling the Senate’s action illegal and unjust.
They declared their unwavering support for their duly elected representative and warned against any attempts to recall her from office.
“We want the Nigerian Senate, fellow citizens, and the entire world to know that we stand firmly with our daughter and Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
“Her suspension is unlawful, and we will not allow our democratic and constitutional rights to be trampled upon,” part of the statement read.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was elected in 2023 to serve a full term ending in May 2027.
But she was suspended by the Senate in February following her sexual harassment allegation crisis with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Her supporters argued that her removal undermines the mandate given to her by the people of Kogi Central.
“She retains our irrevocable legitimacy as our Senator,” Badamasiuy further stated, adding, “We voted massively for her, and we will not accept any moves that seek to strip us of the quality representation she has provided.”
The constituents strongly cautioned against any attempt to recall the Senator, warning that such an action would be met with widespread resistance.
Badamasiuy, who signed the statement on behalf of other constituents from seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district warned, “We seriously warn against any fraudulent attempt to recall her.
“Any attempt against the collective will of our people will not be tolerated.”
They further urged President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian government to ensure the safety of both the Senator and the people of Kogi Central, emphasising the need for peace and justice.
“We have maintained law and order in our communities,” Badamasiuy stated, adding, “We expect the government and the Senate to do the same by restoring our rightful representation.”
The Concerned Constituents therefore called on the Senate to, “Reverse this illegal suspension now and allow our Senator to continue serving us. We will not be provoked any further.”
As tensions rise over the issue, all eyes are on the Nigerian Senate to respond to the demands of the people of Kogi Central.
