Moses Peter Oricha, the embattled Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, has denounced the National Working Committee’s (NWC) constitution of a Caretaker Committee as illegal. Oricha alleged that the committee, led by Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi, is working against the party’s interest and progress in the state.
Oricha questioned the NWC’s decision to dissolve the state executive council without valid reasons, such as anti-party activities or misappropriation of funds. He described the move as a “coup” and an attempt to take over the party.
Regarding the upcoming local government election, Oricha warned aspirants not to recognize the Abenemi-led Caretaker Committee, stating that any actions taken by them would be illegal and null. He reaffirmed his position as the constitutionally recognized Chairman of SDP in Kogi State, vowing to oversee party activities ahead of the election.
This development follows the NWC’s announcement of the Caretaker Committee’s appointment on July 22, 2024, sparking controversy within the party.
