Kogi SDP Distances Self From State Chairman, Alhaji Atimah, Demands Immediate Apology.

by

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the leadership crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party (SDP) took a new twist on Monday with Kogi state chapter reprimanding it’s chairman over unholy alliance with some undemocratic elements within the party.
In a press statement signed by the state secretary of the party and  obtained by the Observerstimes Sent a strong message to those who are read to distract the party ahead of it’s planned activities.

Part of the statement read:

The Executive and floor members of the Social Democratic Party, Kogi State Chapter, have received, with utter dismay and inexplicable opprobrium, the news of its Chairman, Alh. Muktar Atimah’s, involvement in the illegal, baseless and display of juvenile unconstitutionality by colluding and conniving with the now suspended Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq, who is now the former Deputy National Chairman (North), to organize a spurious kangaroo NEC meeting where it purportedly suspended our constitutionally elected National Chairman and Secretary in the persons of Dr. Olu Agunloye and Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam respectively.

Despite finding this news despicable, the SDP, Kogi state chapter, was not surprised or taken aback. It was only marveled that the chairman could bring himself and integrity of the state party to such disrepute despite being held in high esteem as the leader of the party in the state, and therefore should have known better than carrying out such acts of indiscipline without recourse to the party’s overall collective image and interest.

At a time when the party is working hard at repositioning herself as the best alternative come 2023 in concert with the National Secretariat, it is appalling that the chairman can lend himself to be used to rock the party’s boat and remove the wind under her sail by committing this grievous and atrocious infraction.

As disciplined executives guided by the constitution, we wish to make it abundantly and categorically clear that the State Chairman carried out this abominable act on his own volition and accord and as such, we wish to expressly distance ourselves from this irresponsible actions and rededicate our unalloyed loyalty to the leadership of the party under the competence of our National Chairman, Hon. Dr Olu Agunloye, former FRSC boss and a two-time minister of the federal republic, and Our National Secretary in person of an astute politician, one time vice-presidential candidate, Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam, Makam Tilde.

It is our uncoerced resolve to work within the ambit of the constitution and law to see to the growth of our dear party in Kogi state and Nigeria at large.

We call on the State Chairman, Alh. Muktar Atimah, to, as a matter of urgency, retrace his steps immediately within the next 24 hours by tendering an unreserved apology to the state chapter and National body or necessary machinery will be activated to enforce relevant sections of the party’s constitution against him.

Thank you

Signed:

Dr. Arome OKEME
State secretary,
SDP, Kogi State Chapter
