There is a twist to the process of nomination for APC candidates from the federal/state constituencies in Kogi state, as the Governor had jettisoned his earlier plan for consensus to open contests to all
This was against the background of series of commitment from the current federal/state lawmakers both in cash and kind towards prosecution of Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambition towards their return to the National/state Assemblies.
Aside all the commitments since assumption of duty in 2019, the federal/state lawmakers were the sole sponsors of Bello’s promoters ranging from youths, women,supporters both from kogi state and across the country.
It was reliably gathered that a federal lawmaker single handedly bankrolled the movement of state lawmakers to other states in awareness to his bid to become Nigeria’s President.
This was different from the mandatory supports and financial contributions extended to Govenor Bello’s presidential ambition during the launch of his campaign at eagle square, including state lawmakers, commissioners, special advisers and other political appointees.
All these was in anticipation and his promise to adopt a consensus arrangement that will favour the incumbent federal and state lawmakers towards securing the 2023 general elections.
Envisaging the Governor’s consensus candidates may loose the forthcoming election in 2023 massively and other variables there in , especially the unpopular leadership been piloted by this administration in the last six years, he seems to have reneged on it.
However, angry reactions yesterday, greeted the recommendations of Governor Yahaya Bello from all parts of the state, altering his own initial decision of consensus candidate by, throwing the party’s 2023 National Assembly and state Assembly battle for ticket open to all interested members against his earlier promise.
The new development has thrown off balance both the current federal and state lawmakers, as well as those government had a concrete political arrangements to replace or give the APC tickets..
With the current decision, it is now obvious that they will be a mass defection in droves from All Progressives Congress APC to other platforms by the lawmakers and aspirants, both from the state House of Assembly and at the federal level.
The Governor’s decision was taken in an elaborate consultation with the federal , state lawmakers and aspirants gunning for elective positions in the next year’s general elections.
Governor Yahaya Bello’s current position was a clear case of political betrayal against his political followers since he assumed duty in 2014.
