The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought forward fresh charges against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, totaling a staggering N110 billion. Daily Trust reports that the charges, comprising of 16 counts of fraud, were filed before an FCT High Court by the Federal Government.
Accompanied by a team of top lawyers including Kemi Pinheiro and Rotimi Oyedepo, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, the EFCC has also named Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu as defendants in the ongoing case.
This new development follows Bello’s previous court appearance in a Federal High Court in Abuja, where he faced charges amounting to N80.2 billion related to his time as governor of Kogi State.
In a statement released by the anti-graft agency, it was revealed that additional evidence of fraud amounting to N110,446,470,089.00 had been uncovered against Bello and his co-defendants. The charge sheet alleges that the trio conspired to commit criminal breach of trust involving the aforementioned sum at a date in 2016.
As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes are on the court as the EFCC aims to hold Bello and his associates accountable for their alleged misconduct.
