Local government workers in Kogi state are groaning as they complain that they are been paid three months salaries despite 39 months salaries owe them.
Some of the workers who confirmed the development said the sum of N5, 000 was deducted from their salaries. They say that for the three months paid, the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs deducts the sum of N5,000 from each of the months, making the amount deducted to be N15, 000.
Senior staff in one of the local government said that his salary is N45, 000 and narrated how N5, 000 was deducted from each of the months amounting to N15, 000.
Another Local Government worker told this newspaper that some junior workers who collect between N25,000 and N15, 000 as salaries had their salaries deducted by N5,000 for each of the three months paid.
Mr. James Onu who claims to be a senior staff in one of the Local Government Areas in Kogi East told this newspaper that the Directors of the Local government and Treasurers are nowhere to be found to explain to the workers why their salaries were been deducted by N15,000.
A local government worker in Igalamela, who spoke to this newspaper via a telephone from Ajaka, said they have not been paid, but narrated how their colleagues from other Local Government Areas are groaning over what he described as a huge deduction from their salaries.
“it is unfortunate that though we are been owned 39 moths salaries and in the three months paid, N15,000 was deducted for no just cause,” Onu said.
