Kogi Labour Party Opt Out Of Kogi East Consensus Candidate Selection process, ends in deadlocks. Says Process Compromised.

The Unedited Statement Read:

For the records, , we only went there as invited and we honoured it.
On getting there, we met our party’s representatives (zonal chairman and other LGA chairmen from Kogi East).

They informed us of the earlier meeting of last weekend where the committee was constituted and how that two members from each LGA were nominated and the realized they were all APC and PDP members. In fact, it was clearly stated.
.
They raised an objection there at the meeting but the committee had been formed.
This act alone showed that we of other political parties are not considered worthy to be a part of an agenda that is Igala’s.

More over, we were categorically told that whoever the said skewed committee chose would be presented as the consensus candidate and that everyone else should align and step aside for such a person.
This is absolutely preposterous, because if we went ahead with the process, it would be obvious that we have validated the process and we won’t have any further ground.
Also, certain people who do not have any political party’s ticket were also a part of the process.

Any agenda that will be embraced by all and sundry should be fair, credible and equitable, that way everyone will have a buy-in. No candidate will go through the rigours of a party primary and want to just step aside by the mere wave of the hand.

Negotiations, consultations and bargains should be at the centre of arriving at a consensus.
This strategy being adopted by these leaders is already going nowhere.

We have work to do and we need to be ready.

As a matter of fact, we should allow candidates pull their weights individually first and later come to a table. It would have become obvious by then who has capacity or not.

Let’s not make the Igala Agenda, one “sacred Igalas” agenda. It will scatter everything.
