Kogi Killing: Senator Karimi Condemns Fulani Herders’ Killings, Calls for Urgent Action

The ongoing farmers-herders crisis in Nigeria has taken a deadly turn, with Fulani herders killing farmers across the country. Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West at the 10th National Assembly and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, has spoken out strongly against this senseless violence.

In a recent interview on AIT Network News, Senator Karimi highlighted the devastating impact of the crisis on farming communities in Kogi West and other parts of the state, including Kogi East, Omala, and Dekina. He expressed his deep concern over the continuous killings, which have left many farmers too afraid to tend to their crops.

“The situation is dire,” Senator Karimi emphasized. “Farmers are being killed, and their families are being displaced. This not only affects the food supply but also has a long-term impact on the economy and security of our nation.”

The senator attributed the inability of state governors to control the police as a major obstacle in addressing the crisis effectively. He called for the urgent establishment of state police forces, which would enable governors to take decisive action against the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

Senator Karimi’s condemnation of the Fulani herders’ killings was unequivocal. “We cannot continue to allow our farmers to be slaughtered like animals,” he said. “The government must take immediate action to protect its citizens and ensure that justice is served.”

The senator’s call to action is a clarion call to the executive arm of government to take concrete steps to address the crisis. The establishment of state police forces, increased security presence in affected areas, and prosecution of those responsible for these crimes are essential measures that must be taken to restore peace and security to our farming communities.

As Senator Karimi so eloquently put it, “We cannot continue like this. Something urgent needs to be done to end this menace. Our farmers deserve to live and work in peace, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that this is the case.”
