A reliable poll research institute has unveiled useful information regarding the forthcoming gubernatorial race in Kogi State.
This is contained in a report of a survey carried out to predict the possible outcome of the forthcoming governorship elections in the state by Myles Morgan Polling & Research Institute.
Our reporter gathered that the group embarked on an extensive psephological survey on the gubernatorial election in Kogi State in a bid to predict the outcome and project the chances of the personalities gunning for the Lugard’s House and has submitted its report to the Presidency.
Information from the survey data show that 80% of voters across Kogi State are highly unlikely to vote the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello back to power as there is widespread resentment and concomitant discontentment with his administration by the generality of citizens in the state.
The poll’s report reveals that non-payment of salaries to Civil Servants, non-payment of gratuities and pensions to the State’s senior citizens, lack of improvement in basic infrastructure across the state, penchant for violence and the cornucopia of political, social and economic rights’ abuse being perpetrated by the Bello’s government against the Kogi people are some of factors responsible for the unpopularity and outright rejection of the incumbent governor by 80% of the voters.
Myriad of civil servants and ordinary citizens in the State interviewed during the course of the survey expressed gross dissatisfaction and asserted that the incumbent governor will lose the coming election as he has failed in his primary responsibilities as a governor by not paying salaries promptly or embarking on impactful socio-economic infrastructural development commensurate with the humongous inflow of funds into the state coffers for close to four years of his stewardship as governor.
Reacting to the poll, a state civil servant who pleaded anonymity stressed: “Kogi State has never been this impoverished.”
He added: “We the workers have practically become beggars as we grapple to survive without salaries. We have been denied of the means to properly cater for our families.
“The state has never received as much funds under any previous government as it has done under Yahaya Bello from the Federation Account, yet, Bello cannot pay ordinary stipends which they call salaries and there are no capital projects to show for all the huge inflows of money into the state from the Federal allocations and and other sundry financial grants.
So many of our colleagues have died. Some went to the extent of commuting suicide due to prolong frustration foisted on workers by Bello’s administration. We are tired. We won’t vote Bello to return as his re-election will definitely prolong our present slavish conditions and further perpetuate his disastrous plague on us and our people”.
