The summary of today ongoing Kogi election tribunal sitting at Abuja.
On resumption of hearing at the governorship tribunal in Abuja, today, the tribunal chairman, Hon. Justice GK Kaigama presided over the tendering of Certified True Copies of INEC Registers of voters at the hearing session today, OBSERVERS TIMES.
INEC documents comprising of Voter Registers from ten wards in Adavi, fourteen wards of Ajaokuta and eleven wards in Okehi LGAs were tendered and verified. Certified True Copies of INEC Voters registers from Lokoja and Kotonkarfi wards were also tendered by the Counsel to the petitioner, Jibrin Okutepa and duly verified by the Counsel to the second defendant, J. O Daudu and his team.
The tribunal chairman, however adjoined to Wednesday March 4th, 2020 for continuation of the process for the remaining Local Governments Areas of kogi state and their wards. In view of the fixed short duration for winding down tribunal cases, it was unanimous agreed that the process be hastened to meet up the target date.
It will be recalled that INEC had on November 18, declared Yahaya Bello of the APC as winner of the governorship election.
The Returning Officer, Ibrahim Garba, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, declared that Bello polled the highest number of votes in the election with 406,222 to defeat Wada of the PDP.
who scored 189,704 in the election.
As collated by INEC, Bello defeated Wada with a total of 216,518, while Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) came a distant third in the election with 9482 votes.
However, Wada insisted that the election was rigged in favour of the APC candidate.
Aside contending that he won the election, Wada, alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread electoral malpractices and violence.
