Kogi Councillors Laments Over Deductions From Salary.

by

Councillors in Kogi state has accussed the state government of deductions from their salaries against the provision of the law, saying elected local government councillors earned 140,000 monthly as against 300,000 since it’s Inauguration.

According to reports, political office holders at the local government and state level are entitled to so many allowances, but the reverse is the case in Kogi state contrary to what is obtainable in other states.

This ugly developement negates the provision of RMFAC in respect of elected officials at the local government areas

According to RMAFC,elected local government councillors are entitled to wardrobe allowance, constituency/ project allowance, and other allowances, but in Kogi,no councillors take home anything aside 140,000 monthly salaries.

The state government also cajoled elected councillors into acquiring loans with commercial Banks with over bloated interest, that left many councillors in Kogi going home with nothing at month end.

This sad development is not the same in the 35 states of the federation and the FCT,but applicable and prevalent only in Kogi state.

According to some elected councillors who are afraid of victimisation by the state government ,it is undemocratic and unpopular as it negates the law backing payment of salaries and allowances of elected local government councillors.

They appealed to RMAFC to mandate Kogi state government to refund the illegal deductions from councillors salaries from the 21 local government areas in the last one year, saying it is illegal and criminal.
