Kogi Central, Election Robbery Center-Femi Falana Addresses Electoral Irregularities in Kogi Central: Urges Legal Redress

Renowned Nigerian Senior Advocate, Femi Falana, spoke out about the recent controversy surrounding the pre-thumbprinted ballot papers found in Kogi Central during the election process. In a candid interview on Channels Television, Falana emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not responsible for this act, attributing it to politicians’ disregard for democratic principles.

During the 21:37-minute video interview, Falana expressed concern over the irregularities but noted that despite the protests from voters, the votes were ultimately counted. He underscored the need for a more effective approach in handling such issues, urging affected parties to seek legal recourse. Falana voiced skepticism regarding the ability of tribunals to address matters they did not directly witness.

Falana’s statement during the interview resonated, “The incident in Kogi Central, where ballot papers had been pre-thumb-printed, is a clear example. This was not an action by the Independent National Electoral Commission but rather politicians showing a lack of respect for the people’s democratic rights.

However, despite the irregularities, the votes were tallied. What does this signify? It emphasizes the need for legal action. Yet, we task the tribunals with deciding matters they were not physically present for. When influential individuals commit significant violations of the electoral act, consequences seem elusive. These are the critical issues that require immediate attention.”

Falana’s remarks shed light on the challenges facing the electoral process, urging a concerted effort to address and rectify these fundamental issues for the sanctity of Nigeria’s democratic system.
