The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, has expressed confidence that his party would win the November 2, 2019 governorship election in Kogi state and salvage the state and people from the pagans of misrule by enthroning a people-oriented government.
He stated this during a crucial meeting of Kogi PDP critical stakeholders at the party’s national secretariat, in Abuja Wednesday, where the leaders resolved to forego all personal ambitions and work together for the interest of the party and the Kogi people ahead of the election.
Secondus, who was represented by PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the party has the support of the people of Kogi state, who are now looking up to it to rescue the state from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under Governor Yahaya Bello.
“As we all know, our people have gone through pains, pangs, acute poverty, hunger, dehumanisation, brutalisation, job loses, untimely death, suicide and all sorts of anguish as a result of the misrule of the incumbent APC government led by Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“In this race, we must bear in mind that we have the support of the people. Kogi state has always been the home to the PDP notwithstanding the current temporary setback. We must therefore prepare ourselves, stand with our people and salvage our dear state from the pangs of misrule. Our people yearn to move forward and we must give them that leverage they earnestly seek.”
The PDP national chairman further said the people of Kogi state were looking up to his party to rescue them from misrule, adding that it therefore could not afford to fail them.
“We must therefore not allow anything to demoralize us as the winning streaks, which our party displayed in Imo, Adamawa, Bauchi, Osun among others, will be repeated in Kogi state by the grace of Almighty God.
Also, he reiterated the commitment of the party leadership to ensure free, fair, transparent, rancour free and credible processes for all activities toward the governorship election so as to throw up a candidate that is collectively acceptable to the people of Kogi State.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the party in the state Dr Halima Alfa confirmed that the party is going through some trying moment in the state, especially in Kogi-east senatorial district.
She lamented the in- fighting between the two former governors, Captain Idris Wada, Ibrahim Idris and former PDP national chairman, Amadu Ali, stressing that a committee has been set up under the leadership of the national chairman of the PDP to reconcile all aggrieved members of party in Kogi east and other part of the state.
Stakeholders at the meeting include, former Kogi governors, Capt Idris Wada, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, former deputy governor, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, Chief Patrick Adagba, federal legislators from Kogi state, state PDP chairman, Engr. Uhotu as well as other critical stakeholders drawn from all the local government areas of the state.
