Kaduna SWAN Hails Appointment of Prof Gugon As Commissioner of Sports

*Says as team player, would lift sports higher

 

 

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kaduna State Chapter, has congratulated Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong on his portfolio as the Commissioner, Ministry of Sports Development.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Shehu Abdullahi and Secretary, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, dated Thursday July 27, 2023.

SWAN said that it is optimistic that the heading of the sports ministry by the erudite scholar would lead to greater heights for sports in the state.

“We are excited to learn of the portfolio of an erudite scholar, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong as the Ministry of Sports Development Commissioner.

“As a scholar, we believe he will use his ability to research to lift the ministry. As a team player, we are also comfortable with him being handed the ministry, believing that all stakeholders, including SWAN and its members would be carried along.

“Few weeks ago, Kaduna State was put on the world map with the emergence of one of its own, Isaiah Benjamin as SWAN President at an election held in Omoku, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This is yet another plus for sports in the state,” the statement said.

SWAN therefore, commended Governor Uba Sani for bringing whom they described as ” A Man Of The People” to the sports ministry.

The group also urged all the Permanent Secretary, Directors, senior staff, coaches and all workers in the ministry to cooperate with the new Commissioner to take sports in the state to greater heights.

Professor Gugong, until his appointment as commissioner, was a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the
Department of Accounting ,Kaduna State University, Kaduna -Nigeria.

He has earned a B.Sc.; M.Sc.; Ph.D. in (Accounting & Finance).

 

He is a competent, committed and experienced lecturer, who has over 20 years of experience in the educational sector.

Professor Gugong has taught various courses in tertiary institutions. He has the ability to use humour and imagination in a lecture room setting to encourage a learning culture amongst students.

He is easy going by nature and able to get along with both work colleagues, students and administrators.

He is currently focused on developing a career by training himself in every capacity and opportunity given.

The new Sports Commissioner was born on June 29, 1973 at Kagoro, Kaduna State.

He is happily married and blessed with three children.
