JUST IN: Gbajabiamila, Ribadu, Ministers meet over protests, food crisis

Although the agenda of the meeting was not made public, it was reliably gathered it may be linked to the recent protests in some parts of the country over harsh economic conditions.

Others in the meeting are the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun; Ministers of Education, Dr Tahir Mamman; Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Also in the meeting are the Minister of State for FCT Dr Mariya Mahmoud; Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso.

Protesters on Monday blocked the ever-busy Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu Roundabout and called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to address the problem of ‘hunger in the land.’

Attempts by security operatives to quell the protest by firing tear gas cannisters and making some arrests were rebuffed by the protesters.

On the same day, youths in Kano protested over hardship with Governor Abba Yusuf assuring he would take their complaints to the President.
