Jose Mourinho congratulates Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford over his free school meals

Jose Mourinho has paid a special tribute to Marcus Rashford ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham on Friday night. Rashford’s campaign for children to receive free school meals outside of term time prompted a U-turn from the Government earlier this week. Following a personal plea from Rashford, as well as an open letter to MPs, around 1.3 million children in England will now benefit as a result of the new decision. And Mourinho, who managed Rashford for three years at Manchester United, has praised the 22-year-old for his efforts. ‘He did amazingly well, I congratulate him on that,’ said Mourinho.

It’s a bit strange for me that one football player can make it happen and, if it happens, it’s because the government realises it is the right thing to do.
