A tragic incident occurred in Garin Mallam village, Guri Local Government Area, where a 40-year-old woman set herself on fire following her recent divorce. The woman, whose identity is being withheld, used petrol to ignite the flames, leading to her death.

According to a statement from DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Jigawa State, the incident was reported to the command on Thursday at approximately 7:40 a.m. Officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly, and the woman’s remains were subsequently transported to a hospital and later released to her family for burial.

Initial investigations suggest the woman had been suffering from depression after her divorce. Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, urged residents to seek divine intervention and consult with elders for guidance to prevent such tragic outcomes.
