Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, has lambasted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for not accepting the professorship status granted to Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.

Fani-Kayode, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his reservation with the lecturers’ body union in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

The national ASUU leadership has rejected the report submitted by its Owerri chapter on the appointment of Pantami as a Professor of Cybersecurity by the management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

Speaking on Monday, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU National President, said ”there are many unanswered questions on Mr Ibrahim’s professorship”, adding that the public should await its verdict by another panel it had already set up.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode criticised ASUU for taking such a stance, indicating that the lecturers’ union is deliberately picking on Pantami probably due to his faith, as he is a Muslim.

The former minister insisted that the Communications Minister is eminently qualified to be appointed as a professor, and urged them to be open-minded instead of being misdirected by lies.

“What has Isa Pantami done to ASUU? When will the hatred stop? Is it because he is Muslim? I know Pantami well & he is eminently qualified to be a Professor. Let us be guided by love & not hate. Lies, disinformation, prejudice & religious bigotry has blinded many in our country,” Fani-Kayode tweeted.
