In a surprise move, former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Monday, just 48 hours after he was spotted wearing a cap with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia. The meeting was announced by the First Lady’s media aide, Busola Kukoyi, who shared photos of the encounter on social media.
According to Kukoyi, Obasanjo’s visit was to extend Sallah greetings to the First Lady. This gesture has raised eyebrows, given the political differences between Obasanjo and Tinubu. During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo openly supported Peter Obi of the Labour Party, while Tinubu was the candidate of the ruling party.
Despite their political divide, Tinubu had sought Obasanjo’s endorsement before the election, visiting him at his Abeokuta residence. However, Obasanjo chose to back Obi instead. The former President has also publicly criticized the Tinubu administration’s handling of its reforms and the Niger Republic coup.
