The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has accused the Police Service Commission (PSC) of corruption and irregularities in the 2022 constable recruitment process. The IGP alleges that the list of successful candidates released by the PSC contains names of individuals who did not apply or participate in the recruitment exercise, failed the computer-based test or physical screening, or were medically unfit. The IGP also alleges that the list includes unqualified and untrainable individuals who were selected through corrupt practices.
The IGP has written a letter of objection to the PSC, citing the discoveries and calling for a review of the recruitment process. The Police Force has dissociated itself from the published list and is seeking a transparent and credible review.
The PSC had constituted a Joint Recruitment Board, which included a Deputy Inspector General of Police, but the Board was reportedly crippled and unable to carry out its mandate. The IGP is seeking a total review of the process to ensure that qualified, competent, and trainable individuals are recruited into the Police Force, in line with the vision of the President’s administration on police reform.
The Police Force has assured prospective recruits that it is committed to ensuring a thorough review of the process and a successful outcome for the betterment of the Nigeria Police and the country.
