A statement issued by Engineer Lawrence Akpa, the spokesperson of the group, said the planned action is targeted at aspirants who the government feared can unseat Governor Yahaya Bello in the November election because of their formidable state-wide acceptance.
“An information obtained on good authority confirmed that an officer in the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP. Ahmed Sanusi Mohammed, 2i/c Federal SARS Area 3, Abuja, DSP Ojo and 12 other Inspectors have been hired by Kogi State government to work with GYB Thugs led by Ahmedi Attah to carry out dastardly assignment on high profile aspirants from Kogi State.
“Prominent aspirants listed for the attacks in APC include Professor Seidu Mohammed, Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd) and Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi. The aim is to discourage them from further prosecuting their project to rescue the State from the bad governance of the present administration.
“There have been series of subtle plans by Kogi State government, who is visibly afraid of the emergence of these prominent indigenes from Kogi East, to intimidate real and perceived supporters of these aspirants, sponsor libel/slander on social and conventional media, removal of campaign posters and billboards, and direct attacks on their persons, both within and outside the state,” he said.
Engineer Akpa said the statement is also a riot act to the Inspection General of Police to rise to occasion to call to his subordinate Commanders to order and stop the hiring and use of SARS officials to harass innocent citizens of the state.
“Innocent Kogites should have freedom to go about their lawful activities. Police which is expected to protect them from embarrassment or attacks by the State government between now and November governorship election should not allow itself to be used to take the lives of innocent Nigerians,” he added.
He counseled the APC Kogi East Zonal Leader, Ahmedi Attah to desist from endangering lives of innocent citizens and allow the aspirants to pursue their political ambition as against protecting the interest of the state governor, Yahaya Bello who is highly indebted to the State workers particularly after several warning prophesies from the house of God, Mercyland Warri.
Akpa particularly enjoined the Police commissioner, State Director, DSS and other security agents deployed to serve in the state not to fall prey of the state government’s antics to silence the opposition within the APC and other political parties in the race towards November elections.
He called on the IGP to check the illegal use of his operatives by the Kogi State Governor and his chief of staff, Edward Onoja.
