Chuks Akunna, the Executive Director of Authority Newspaper, has expressed a sincere apology to former President Muhammadu Buhari following the recent contentious court of appeals ruling that resulted in the ousting of the Kano State governor. Akunna criticized the judicial system, likening the scenario to condemning a person to death and recognizing the mistake only after the execution.
In an AIT interview, Akunna reflected on previous critiques of President Buhari’s search of judges’ residences, now acknowledging Buhari’s actions as foresighted, suggesting that the president anticipated corruption within the judiciary.
He remarked, “Somebody was telling me last night that it’s like sentencing a man to death, and after the man had been killed, then you say, Oh, sorry, it was not Mr. A who was supposed to be killed, it was Mr. B. It shows how irresponsible these judges are, and we’ll keep calling them out. When President Muhammadu Buhari, in the dead of night, raided the homes of these judges, we came here to condemn the act. I hereby tender an unreserved apology to former president Muhammadu Buhari because Buhari saw then what we’re just saying now. These men are very corrupt.”
