A heartbreaking story of medical malpractice and neglect has emerged from Lagos, where a nursing mother, Okoye Ogochukwu, suffered complications from poorly executed surgeries at Faith City Hospital in Ajao Estate.
Ogochukwu underwent a C-section in May 2023, but her joy was short-lived as she developed severe pain and swelling due to particles left inside her. Despite complaining to her doctor, Ejim Chibike, she was told to lose weight and exercise, only to discover later that she had retained products of conception in her womb.
The mother of three underwent two more surgeries, but her condition worsened due to unremoved stitches and abscesses. She was eventually told that her womb was severely damaged, and she would never be able to have more children.
Ogochukwu and her family spent over N3 million on medical bills, but Faith Clinic offered a mere N150,000 as compensation. She is demanding full reimbursement and a formal apology from the hospital.
This devastating case highlights the need for accountability and better medical practices in Nigeria.
All efforts to get the reaction of the management of the hospital proved abortive as calls, texts and email messages were not replied to.
