Atiku Abubakar’s role in helping Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) secure power in 2015 is a great topic of interest, especially due to the failures and backwardness the party has unleashed on Nigeria between 2015 to date.
According to Atiku Abubakar himself, he used his contacts and resources to help the APC defeat his former Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 presidential election.
Atiku’s involvement with the APC began in February 2014, when he joined the party with other G7 Governors ahead of the 2015 presidential election. Atiku Abubakar with other G7 Governors, mainly from the then ruling party, the PDP, rejected President Goodluck Jonathan, a southerner who was at the time seeking his second term in office.
Although he contested the APC presidential primaries and lost to Muhammad Buhari, a northerner, Atiku Abubakar did not defect to other parties as he did in PDP, but remained in the APC and contributed in helping the party and Muhammadu Buhari to win the election.
During one of his interviews on channels TV politics today, Mr Atiku expressed satisfaction with APC’s victory, saying that he has achieved his dream of giving Nigerians the opportunity to change government at the national level.
However, not too long after the APC/Buhari’s victory, Mr Atiku fell-out with the APC and its leadership and returned to the PDP, despite his contribution to the party’s political failure in the election.
In conclusion, the current hardship, economic crisis and devastated state of affairs in the country today are the handiwork of Atiku Abubakar and the G7 Governors, who refused to support the then President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
