House Committee on Health Visits University of Abuja Teaching Hospital,Promises To Reduce Medical Tourism Attract More improvement, Development. BY ABUBAKAR YUSUF.

 

 

The Chairman House Committee on Health in the House of Representatives, Hon Amos Gwamna Magaji has promised to put an end to medical tourism in the country.

While commending President Tinubu for declaring state of emergency on Health, he promised to change the analogue attitude and approach to the administration of health among many others in Nigeria’s health sector to a digitize era.

He made this disclosure on Thursday during the visit of the committee to the university of Abuja Teaching Hospital, UATH, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

He commended the management of the hospital for reflecting federal character in appointment of top management of the hospital.

He assured the management of the hospital on routine and unannounced visits , to address the problems of neglects prevalent in the public hospitals across the country.

“We are not going to announce our visits always and we will improve our oversights functions to the hospital, so be ready to see more of us going forward.”

He said the committee of over 40 members in the 10th Assembly are experienced including medical personnel and ranking status to mitigate and improve the activities of medical services in the country.

The committee commended the Chief Medical Director, Professor Bisala Ekele for a multi media presentation and articulation of its activities in the last few years, saying the committee will adopt this model in other parts of the country.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Bisala Ekele said the hospital has improved from the previous 350 bed space to over 500 bed in the last few years.

He requested the committee to prevail on the executive to provide MRI machines and improved power supply in the hospital among many others.

While appealing to federal lawmakers to contribute their quota through their constituency projects domiciliation in the hospital to improve it’s services.

The committee members along with the management of the hospital under Professor Bisala Ekele inspected completed projects in the hospital.

The New Mental Health Building, renovated children ward, department of Pharmaceutical services, female medical and surgical ward, among others.
