Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims, representing Ankpa, Omala, and Olamaboro Federal Constituency, has called on the Federal Government to take immediate action to address the insecurity and mass slaughter caused by clashes between crop farmers and herders in Agojeju-Odo community, Omala Local Government Area, Kogi State.
In a motion presented to the House of Representatives in May, Rep. Halims urged the executive arm of government to deploy Mobile Policemen and Military personnel to the area to restore peace. The House resolved to urge the Minister of Defence to establish an operational military base in Omala to boost security and ensure lasting peace in the crisis-prone communities.
Recently, Rep. Halims visited the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, to follow up on the implementation of the House resolutions. The Minister commended Rep. Halims for his efforts and assured him of his support, stating that security is a priority of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. The Minister promised to take necessary actions within two weeks to implement the resolutions.
The Ministry of Defence is responsible for overseeing and supervising the Nigerian Armed Forces, and its main mission is to provide administrative and support services to enable the Armed Forces to perform their duties effectively.
