President Bola Tinubu has urged state governments to prioritize the needs of local communities by ensuring accountability and effectiveness in the administration of local governments. He made this appeal during a meeting with the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President emphasized the importance of effective local governance, saying, “When we seek power, we go to the grassroots; when it is time to govern, sub-nationals focus on Abuja.” He encouraged state governments to be sympathetic to the needs of local people and to recalibrate their approach to local government administration.

President Tinubu also highlighted the significance of education in nation-building, describing the situation of out-of-school children in parts of Nigeria as unacceptable. He pledged to collaborate with the ACF to address this issue and to develop the education system.

On security, the President commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his efforts and promised to invest more in technology to ensure Nigeria’s security. He also addressed economic development and livestock management, emphasizing the potential of dairy farms to grow the economy.

The President appealed for national unity and continued support for his government as it solves decades-long challenges confronting the populace. He directed the establishment of a committee to follow up on the issues raised at the meeting, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

The leader of the ACF delegation, Barrister Bashir Dalhatu, congratulated President Tinubu on his first year in office and expressed appreciation for his achievements and service to the country. He highlighted several achievements, including the prioritization of funding for agriculture and education, and the maintenance of good relations with Nigeria’s neighbors.
