The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, has said that the disgraced former American President Donald Trump could not have lost election if he called for the support of the governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Mr Doguwa, who represents Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency, boasted in November 2019 how the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, approved three new official vehicles for him despite a court order sacking him from the House.
Mr Dogawa later recanted the statement, saying he was quoted out of context.
But in a viral video sent to DAILY NIGERIAN on Wednesday, Mr Doguwa was heard addressing a group of supporters on the rigging power of the governor of Kano State.
“In hindsight, when the figures started showing Trump would lose, he should have called Ganduje on phone to send him Murtala Garo or Alhassan Ado or Kawu Sumaila or Rep Kabiru Rurum. The story would not have been the same today.
“To us, Ganduje is a political institution. Politicians will spend years telling you lies about winning election in 2023, they are just telling you rubbish,” Mr Doguwa said in the short clip.
Many independent observers are of the opinion that the ruling APC with active connivance of security agents and top officials Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, rigged the March 2019 supplementary election in favor of the ruling party.
In its report, the Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, a non-governmental organisation which deployed observers to monitor elections, gave a damning account of the rigging 2019 governorship polls.
“In Kano State, violence and disruption of polling were widespread as an army of thugs reportedly took over polling activities in several local government areas (LGAs), including Nasarawa, Dala, Karaye and Gaya. In PU 011, Kwanyawaward and PU 002, Chede ward, both in Karaye LGA; and PU 001 and PU 034-036, Gama Ward of Nasarawa LGA.
“It is distressing that political thugs took over the elections forcing voters to vote along a particular party line, stoning voters and violently disrupting the polls. As reported yesterday (Friday, March 22 2019) in our preliminary report, Gama ward in Nasarawa LGA in Kano State is very strategic to winning the supplementary elections by either of the two leading candidates,” the CDD said.
