Gunmen open fire on Benue student leader, shot the student union president

Gunmen on Sunday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, shot the President of the National Union of Benue State Students, Tyonor Smith.
The student leader, according to source, was shot at the gate of the Benue State University College of Health Sciences while on his way out of the school.

He was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.
Confirming the report, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, said  Smith was shot by unknown gunmen at the gate of the State University College of Health Sciences.
She explained that upon investigation, it was discovered that Smith was involved in campus politics, adding that the students’ union election was around the corner and  that his opponent(s) might be responsible for the act.
Anene maintained that the command had launched investigations to unravel those who shot the students’ leader. She added that no arrest had been made.
She added that the NUBESS president was in a stable condition.
