The Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi has reiterated the need for road users in the state, especially roads with frequent reports of kidnapping, to avoid solitary traveling and be security conscious on the roads.
He said the government was becoming helpless on insecurity in the State, adding that residents of Ekiti State should assist themselves by avoiding using those roads that have become Kidnappers’ havens during late hours.
Fayemi, who condemned the Sunday attack on Oba Abdul-Mumini Adebayo Orisagbemi, the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti, said the security challenge being faced in the country is not peculiar to Ekiti and hence should not be politicized by the oppositions.
“We are not relenting in our fight against insecurity in the state. It is regrettable that we have not been able to bring the situation under control. We have sent our greetings to the Kabiyesi and we are wishing him quick recovery.
“However, what happened to Kabiyesi is not expected and should not be celebrated. The issue of insecurity requires our collective efforts because the government cannot do alone. It is unfortunate that despite our funding and support given the Operation Amotekun in the state, we are still experiencing this spree of insecurity,” the governor lamented.
Reacting to speculations that the road to the country home of the governor, Isan-Ekiti, has been hijacked by hoodlums, on Sunday, Governor Fayemi said the safety of the monarch and that of the people residing in the areas is what the state government will prioritize henceforth.
It was reported that Attah of Ayede-Ekiti escaped deadly attack after gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen shot at his car and left him with injuries.
