If it were in other climes , where democracy and rule of law had advanced beyond learning, the current Kogi Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo is supposed to have been relieved of his office and cooling off in jail, after it was confirmed to had involved in forgery of his documents, statutory to the election he won at the siting of the ongoing Kogi state governorship election petition tribunal over the November 11, election held in Kogi state.
But, let’s not preempt the forthcoming judgement of Kogi state governorship election petition tribunal, that is set to deliver judgment before the end of the month of May, after accepting the written addresses from counsels of the defendant and the SDP.
How can someone who aspired to become the first citizen of Kogi state be seen to be involved in wanton forgery of vital documents, yet allow such anomaly to continue to pilot the affairs of the state, whatever is the outcome of the judgement of the tribunal, Appeal Court, the Supreme Court will be the final arbiter.
A vital documents forged with a date at weekend showed a great malfeasance to our democratic institution and dispensation in recent times.
If a Governor in Nigeria, David Lyon was punished for the wrongs of his deputy, I wondered why a sitting governor like Ododo with a forged document will not be brought to book hastily.
In Nigeria legal history amd parlance, we were made to believe those issues of that magnitude fell into pre-election matter for obvious reasons, that an opponent does not have access to scrutinize the documents of each other, except the recent revelation in the tribunal.
Even though, this ugly development in Kogi may form part of the decision of the tribunal , it is morally sad that people with questionable characters are allowed to preside over the affairs of Kogi state in the last eight years.
From rigging, wanton stealing of state funds and public till, it is unfortunate that people with low moral, bereft of ideas, lack of exposure, stark ignorance and inexperience are allowed to preside over the affairs of Kogi state.
The case of forgery against Governor Usman Ododo established at the tribunal is so grievous that the judiciary cannot trivialize or look the other way, as documents speaks volumes of individual character.
With the case just leaping from the tribunal, the higher courts is expected to take another look on the forgery and established facts about Kogi Governor’s document, Alhaji Usman Ododo.
