Ghana Immigration Service, GIS, has deported 17 Nigerians internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘yahoo boys’.
According to the Municipal Police Commander of Ho, the Volta Regional capital, DSP Anthony Dansot, 29 people were arrested in the area, after which 17 of them were found guilty of cyber crime activities.
Danso said after their arrest, the suspects were immediately handed over to immigration service to determine their status. Item recovered from them include 20 mobile phones, 33 laptops, two television sets and other electronic gadgets.
Further investigations however showed that only 12 out of the 29 Nigerians were legal residents of Ho.
He added that those that were found to be legal residents were immediately freed to continue their various work and activities. He said many house owners in the country are now afraid to lease their apartments to Nigerians.
