Female Director In Media, Calls For Integration, Application Of Equality Provisions For Media Agencies.
The Executive Director of DIELA ORCHID MEDIA SERVICES and a seasoned Communication Strategist, Ms. Oluchi Adiela Nwosu on Tuesday October 12 2021 while speaking at the 8th Annual conference of She Forum Africa a home-grown Pan-Africa Women Development, Leadership & Lifestyle Organisation founded by Ms. Inimfon Etuk, resounded the need for women in politics and other Institutions to support Women in Media.
The conference, a hybrid event which held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and saw the convergence of women and girls from across the globe focused on the theme; “Keep Showing up”. Women and girls were encouraged to always dare to dream big and never relent in showing up at places which align to their dreams and aspirations.
Ms. Nwosu who was a Panelist at the conference while speaking on Democracy, Leadership & Governance panel which was a conversation on ‘Centralizing The Power Of Young African Women’s Political Participation For Gender Equity In Democratic Processes,’ powered by Women’s Democracy Network Africa called on Women in all Spheres of life to support women in Media to help promote Gender-Sensitive Media Coverage especially of the electoral process for women in politics.
She lamented the conduct and manner of reportage by a large number of media houses.
” Despite the effort by few females in media to promote women’s political participation in a democracy, a large portion of the media often present Gender-Based stereotypes of women via negative and belittling images which further excludes us (women) from the space.
She further called for capacity building and proper training for especially female journalists and professionals in the media.
Ms. Inimfon Etuk, the founder of She Forum Africa while delivering her Welcome Speech said, ‘She Forum Africa is a breeding ground for Strengthening Women’s aspirations, Leadership and Capacity for sustainable livelihoods.’
” When we come together we do so to amplify everyday women, whose voices leadership antecedents, business accomplishments and entrepreneurial feats are disrupting traditional notions of gender, feminism and everything between in their own distinctive ways, ” she added.
