No fewer than 57 people lost their lives in a fuel tanker explosion in Tanzania on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in Morogoro region, about 200 km west of the port city of Dar es Salaam.
Pictures from the scene show flaming wreckage scattered over a wide area and burnt bodies lying on the ground.

It was learnt that people were trying to siphon fuel from the vehicle, which had overturned when the blast happened.
Morogoro is on a major route for transporting cargo and fuel from the port, which is in the country’s commercial capital.
