Former House of Representatives member, Bade Falade, voices concern over the influx of former governors into the National Assembly, warning that they often become liabilities to both the legislative body and their constituents.
Speaking at an event organized by the League of Veteran Journalists in Osogbo, Falade emphasized the importance of limiting the rotation of legislators, disguised as political zoning, in order to maintain a level of expertise and experience within the National Assembly.
“He emphasized that legislative roles require years of experience to make substantial contributions in the esteemed chamber.
The former lawmaker criticized certain state governors who perceive the National Assembly as a retirement refuge after their tenure, noting that many of them become liabilities due to their lack of lawmaking experience.”
Critiquing the trend of governors seeing the National Assembly as a retirement option, Falade highlighted the necessity of having lawmakers with years of legislative experience to make meaningful contributions to society.
He urged Nigerians to focus on the oversight responsibilities of lawmakers, rather than their perks, stressing the vital role they play in preventing financial mismanagement in the country.
