The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Minister Nyesom Wike for his appointment of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State into key positions. The APC expressed its dismay during a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, denouncing Wike’s actions as detrimental to the political structure of the APC in the FCT.
Abdulwahab Ekekhide, a notable figure within the FCT APC, accused Minister Wike of neglecting indigenous people and APC members in favor of PDP affiliates. Ekekhide emphasized that Wike’s disregard for the party and its leadership could severely impact the APC’s performance in future elections.
“We call on Mr. President to intervene and urge the minister to prioritize empowering the APC. Failure to do so may result in significant electoral losses for the party in the upcoming area councils election in 2027,” Ekekhide warned.
Furthermore, Ekekhide alleged that the APC has historically faced challenges in the FCT due to ministers appointing individuals with no ties to the region, who subsequently abandon their posts during elections, leaving the FCT electorate disenfranchised.
Echoing these sentiments, Isaac David, the youth leader of the FCT APC, criticized Minister Wike for his lack of local ties, pointing out that neither Wike nor the PDP loyalists brought into Abuja for appointments have registered voter cards in the FCT. David emphasized that if the indigenous population and APC members continue to be sidelined, they will not support Wike or the APC’s presidential candidate in 2027.
In a bold move, David stated, “The APC youths in the FCT will withdraw our support from Mr. President. Let us see how he plans to win the FCT in 2027.”
