The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has embarked on a sensitization program to educate secondary school students in Kogi State about their rights and responsibilities as consumers. The initiative aims to empower consumers to make informed decisions and demand value for their money.
Addressing students at Baptist Group of Schools in Lokoja, FCCPC’s Assistant Chief Consumer and Business Education Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Bello, emphasized the importance of consumer education. He highlighted the need for consumers to be aware of their rights, including the right to information, product labeling, and fair dealings. Additionally, he stressed the importance of consumers speaking out, thinking independently, and complaining about substandard products or services.
The FCCPC is working to establish consumer clubs in schools to sustain the sensitization program. The commission’s mandate is to protect and promote consumer interests by ensuring access to quality products and services at competitive prices.
School principals and students alike commended the FCCPC for the initiative, recognizing the importance of empowering consumers with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. The sensitization program will help foster a culture of informed consumption and fair competition in the market.
The FCCPC encourages consumers to report any issues with fake or substandard products through their complaints platforms, including their portal, social media handles, hotline, and offices. By promoting consumer awareness and advocacy, the FCCPC aims to create a more informed and empowered consumer base in Nigeria.
