Day 3: Consumers defied the light rain on Wednesday, 29 September, 2021 to bring their complaints to the ongoing FCCPC Electricity Consumer Complaint Resolution Platform, taking place at

Consumers Storm St Paul’s Cathedral, Garrison, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State to meet FCCPC team

The day’s session lasted about two hours past the scheduled time, due to the complex nature of the complaints presented.

One was a complaint filed by Trans Amadi Gardens Estate Residents Association, which involved some 300 households.

The association complained of PHED’s failure to install the estate’s 3.5 mva transformer, non-reimbursement for investment in the DisCo’s network, over-billing due to placement of the estate on a wrong tariff band, unwarranted decommissioning of their prepaid meters, and illegal disconnection of the estate in March and August 2021.

The DisCo, on its part, complained of absence of prior agreement before the investment in its network, loss of revenue on account of bypass and faulty meters, and denial of access to the estate to perform its routine activities.

The Commission, supported by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), resolved all the issues to the satisfaction of the parties.

A similar scenario occurred in most of the cases presented.

The complaint resolution platform, supported by MacArthur Foundation, ends on Thursday, 30 September, 2021.
