FCCPC accuses Nigerian banks of violating customers’ rights with service disruptions

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has raised concerns about ongoing disruptions in online banking services in Nigeria, labeling it as a breach of customers’ rights.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission urged affected bank customers to seek redress for the inconveniences caused by the disruptions, which have impeded access to funds, payment processing, and essential transactions for millions of individuals and businesses.

Under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, customers have specific rights to ensure fair and accountable service delivery, including the right to quality service that guarantees acceptable levels of functionality and reliability from service providers, such as banks.

The FCCPC’s scrutiny of this matter highlights the importance of upholding consumer rights and maintaining service standards in the banking sector.
